CAMP 1804

TYREE HARRIS BELL

Men,
Sometimes we do things or take on projects that we think should be so important to everyone but in the final you find out it is not as important to others as it is to you. Especially here in Liberal California. No matter how much time and effort one may have invested in trying to explain how important your idea or project is it only takes minutes or seconds to rub it out. I have had that feeling and it used to leave me completely exhausted and disappointed.
I want to say something on behalf of our Camp 1804 here in Fresno, Ca. I am so proud of our men for not wavering amidst all the shouts and or disappointments. We have done some very nice things as a Camp but in what I am about to explain, nothing ever so monumental as placing two monuments as tributes to the Confederate Veterans of California. Most public boards run in fear that they might offend someone.
A couple of years ago the Arizona Division placed a small stone monument. We liked it and decided that we would like to do the same somewhere out here in the Central Valley of California. I had a health condition that required me to step down as Camp Commander and back away from what I was doing. Compatriot Richard Kline stepped up as Camp Commander and took over all my duties including the placement of the marker.
After a number of disappointments and set-backs when most men would just throw up their hands and turn away from it Richard did not. Commander Kline pushed on relentlessly and accomplished what seems to me a miracle. We are not only placing the one stone but two stones here in the Central Valley. My thanks goes out to Commander Kline and those men who gave him the support he needed and the strength to endure all the difficulties at hand. Thank you and God bless you Compatriots Bill Lee, James Chance, and Tim Desmond for all the support you gave to our Camp Commander and Brother Richard Kline. This is what the SCV is all about.
Never ever give up on what you feel is right!!!!
All for our father's fathers,
Chuck Norred

Gentlemen of General Tyree Harris Bell, Camp 1804!
What a productive meeting we had Saturday! I want to thank you for all the hours that you have devoted towards our various projects and thank you to you new members who are willing to donate your time towards our future projects and our awesome organization. Men like we have in Camp 1804 make it easy for an old grumpy Commander like myself. Thank you!
Compatriot and friend Richard Kline there is no way I can express to you my appreciation for the work you have done and the endless hours you have contributed to our great organization. You are carrying the banner my friend and our troops are rallying around you.
Thank you Compatriot Bill Lee for all the time you have contributed to assist Commander Kline in his efforts to honor our Confederate Veterans of California.
We have much to do in preparation of placement & ceremonies but we are prepared and we have the men to get it done.
People often ask us why we do what we do. To me it is a simple answer. It is in the blood and I am a prideful character! We are who we are because of our granddaddy's. Being the Son of a Confederate Veteran is an Honor and the greatest award we receive will not be a piece of medal hanging from a ribbon! It will be when we walk through those Pearlie Gates and we see our great grand-dads waiting for us. That will be the greatest award ever!! That is why we do what we do!!!!
God Bless ya'll,
Chuck Norred, Camp 1804
